As Co-Sponsors of the 14th Oxford Stuttering and Cluttering Research Conference, The Michael Palin Centre is delighted to bring you a Solution Focused Brief Therapy study day organised to coincide with the Conference.

Come to the Michael Palin Centre for a one-day in-person practical Masterclass in applying Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to stammering therapy, led by Ali Berquez who co-wrote our recent publication ‘Solution Focused Brief Therapy with Children and Young People who Stammer and their Parents.  A Practical Guide from The Michael Palin Centre.’

What is SFBT?
SFBT changes the focus of therapy from the problem to the solution, exploring what clients want from therapy and using clients’ resources and strengths to achieve their best hopes. SFBT has been used with parents, children, teenagers and adults who stutter (Berquez & Jeffery, 2024; Nicholas, 2015) and can be adapted for use in clinical supervision and team meetings.

What will the masterclass involve?
This masterclass will explore a client’s therapy journey to bring the principles and practice of SFBT to life and how it can be applied to stammering therapy. The workshop will include teaching, discussion and practical exercises and will be supported by video observation and reflection. It is suitable for those who are experienced in SFBT as well as those interested in developing their understanding of it. 

The day will run from 10am to 4pm
